Marion Manson
Marion Manson is a Hamilton-based multidisciplinary artist who loves giving discarded books and paper a new life through sculptural forms, handmade books, and mixed-media works. Using mainly upcycled materials, her work explores memory, history, place, and the stories held within the printed page. Her bookmaking practice also incorporates paper-altering techniques including rusting, natural dyeing, eco printing and altered National Geographic magazines, celebrating the beauty of repurposed and recycled materials. Since discovering the piano hinge paper sculpture technique in 2020, Marion has developed a distinctive body of work, winning the 2025 Small Sculpture Award. Alongside her studio practice, she enjoys curating exhibitions, mentoring other artists, and sharing her passion for contemporary book and paper arts.

Philips' Concorde World Atlas
Marion discovered this atlas in an op shop and was drawn to its matte pages and soft pastel colours, which she loves to work with. It's a classic example of early 1970s atlas design — clear maps, bold colours, and the geographic knowledge of that era, before many mid-70s political changes. From Cold War borders to countries that no longer exist in the same form, every page is a vibrant snapshot of history frozen in time. This piano-hinge sculpture invites gentle interaction — please enjoy exploring its many possible configurations.
