Jane Parson
Jane Parson is a painter and printmaker presently living on the Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand. The abstract imagery in her work is built up in many rich and textured layers based on her observations of organic forms in the landscape. She paints mainly in oil paint and cold wax medium, a paste-like substance that adds body and luminosity to the pigment. The complex surfaces of her work are the result of building up many layers of this mixture with various tools and techniques, as well as selectively scraping and dissolving areas to reveal underlying layers. Mark making from her printmaking is also used in her intuitively developed paintings. Colours, shapes and textures evoke the geology found on exposed land and by the seashore, giving nuances of the complex structure of the many patterns found in nature and resulting in works that resonate on an emotional level.
